Septic Tanks
At Drain Care & Repair we can offer you a Septic Tank Sewage Treatment Systems offer a primary treatment at its location, the secondary treatment process happens in the drainage field rather than transporting the sewage to a sewer system. Because most septic tank systems throughout the country are not functioning properly, various laws have been passed to help prevent the serious environmental and human health problems they can cause.

a typical septic tank
All septic tanks, from Dec. 31st 2011, need a Permit or Exemption from the Environment Agency under the EPP2 Regulation.
The penalty now for a septic tank discharging into a water course can be £100,000!! If you have a septic tank it should have a permit to discharge and it should state how and where it discharges to. It is worth checking that it still operates in the correct manner as many have been altered to get over problems caused by:-
- Infrequent Emptying.
- High Water Table.
- Poor Drainage Field at Ground.
- Inadequate Soakaway System.
Septic tank effluent cannot be discharged into any watercourse or ditch. In the old days, when the soakaway failed, it was much cheaper to dig an overflow pipe to the ditch than to install a new soakaway. However, this has been illegal, (even for existing systems) since 1991 when the Water Resources Act came into being to protect our ditches, streams and rivers.
